Gabrovo is a city located in central Bulgaria on the Yantra river. Gabrovo is known as the international capital of humour and satire. Museum dedicated to the humour is located within the city and its citizens are notorious for their unique sense of humour. Their jokes are related to stinginess and rivalry with neighboring city of Sevlievo. During the second half of 20th century jokes have been largely popularized due to the House of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo. 

Gabrovo is a member of the Federation European Carnival Cities. The carnival in Gabrovo is organized each May of the year and is famous with its unique atmosphere and humouristic clothing.

Gabrovo has approximatelly 72 thousand citizens (2008) and a techincal university is based within the city, making it one of the university cities in Bulgaria. Gabrovo was a center of the industrialization for the period 1878 - 1944 and after the soviet occupation remained one of the key manufacturing centers of Bulgaria.

Gabrovo is one of the longest cities in Bulgaria as it is situated around the Yantra river and is above 25 kilometers long. Various places near the city are attractive for tourists like the Etara Museum, the National Education Museum, the House of Humour and Satire, Dryanovski Monastery, Sokolovski Monstery and Bozhentzi Ethnographic Complex. Gabrovo is situated near the Shipka peak, which has a historical sentiment in the Bulgarian history and 50 kilometers south from the old Bulgarian capital Veliko Tarnovo.
